Joyrambati Shri Shri Matri Mandir

Joyrambati Overview

Sri Sri Matri Mandir is situated at Joyrambati, Bankura. Joyrambati, the small village is twenty-seven miles distant from Bishnupur in Bankura District. The place is two miles to the east of Shihar and three miles to the west of Kamarpukur, the holy birthplace of Shri Shri Thakur.

The humble vibes of this holy place convey the message of Dharma, Karma and Moksha. Shri Shri Sarada Devi, the spiritual consort of Bhagavan Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa, was born in Joyrambati in 1853. Outwardly, she presented herself as an ordinary woman to the World for hiding her divine essence of nature. The veiling figure of the motherhood of God was truly an incarnation of wisdom, welfare and forgiveness. A true prophet of the modern age, Shri Shri Thakur was survived 34 years by the Holy Mother. The birthplace of the Mother and Guru of all disciples of Shri Shri Thakur has become a sacred place of pilgrimage for the people seeking eternal peace and self-purification.

The Matri Mandir (Math centre) was established in 1920 at Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi’s birthplace. The temple stands on the spot where she was born and enshrines her sacred relics. The adjacent house where the Holy Mother lived is preserved as a sacred memorial.

Daily worship, fortnightly Ramnam Sankirtan, religious classes, birth anniversaries of spiritual luminaries, and some festivals like Kali puja, Durga puja and Jagaddhatri Puja.
Welfare work by way of distributing milk, clothing, blankets, textbooks, and so on to the poor and needy.

Joyrambati Shri Shri Matri Mandir

A lively white marble sculpture of the Holy Mother in ‘Dhyana Mudra’ is seated in this beautiful temple. Swami Saradananda dedicated this temple to the Holy Mother on the sacred day of Akshaya-Tritiya on 19th April, 1923 and the temple has been constructed exactly on the birthplace of her. Shri Shri Maa’s father, Shri Ramchandra Mukhopadhyaya had his original house here and the divine marriage between Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa Dev and the Shri Shri Maa was arranged at this place. The Holy Mother is worshipped daily with appropriate ‘Bhog’ and rituals.
